Recently, on a visit to my father-in-law's, we went to a Ren Faire.  My daughter Sparkle was hot and cranky.  She had no interest in the surroundings, and stomped about and pouted.

I thought watching the men in armor fighting it out from the shade of the trees would be a FINE idea.  We could sit and be entertained.  Now, the fighters would choose pretty girls from the audience and lead them to the pavilion next to the "King" and "Queen" of the event, and fight for them.  Sparkle had her arms crossed and kept looking away, clearly cross.  I attributed this to the heat.

One of the fighters, his bout done, was leading his lady back to the shady trees by us.  My daughter launched to her feet, and put both of her fists on her hips, then shook a little finger up at the fighter.

"HITTING PEOPLE IS NEVER OKAY!" Sparkle scolded.

The fighter did not lose his aplomb.  "Hitting people is not, my lady," he said, bowing, "But that was a Knave."  And off he went.  Sparkle was unsatisfied, ("HMPH!") and I was helpless trying not to laugh out loud at her.

I figure that since I've been telling this story to everyone, it deserved to be posted, too.
