When I was wee my family would go over the North Cascades Pass to Winthrop, WA. There were three (now two) tunnels along the route.
Both me and my sister had a interestingly difficult time with the word tunnel.
My Dad would prompt us "Say Tun" and we'd repeat "Tun" clear as a bell.
"Say Nul" and we'd repeat that with no problem.
"Say Tunnel" and we'd reply "Tungle"
Have no idea why.
