School Visit
We visited Sparkle's potential placement today.
It's in an older school in a nice neighborhood, in a room down a hall a bit away from everyone else.
Nice teacher, nice aides. Sparkle played in their motor skills area, and seemed comfortable. The teacher asked a lot of questions about Sparkle, and I was actually reassured when another kid made a 'break" out the door and down the hall, and they fetched him back with little fuss. (Seen it before, y'know.)
Sparkle would be child number six in the class, with just five other students. She would be the last entry. It looks like she'd be mainly in this pullout room until they get a handle on her ability to mainstream with others. (I'm guessing it might not happen here in the last couple of months at school, given her track record at her home elementary school of disrupting.) Best of all, school is daily, so we won't have that on-again, off-again schedule.
The coordinator of the program said that there are kids moving out of our district's program at the end of the year, so it is likely Sparkle would move back to one of the district's "home" schools for next year, which is fine by me, too. I've seen that program, too, and was okay with it then, so okay with next year, too.
Our special education coordinator (my old boss) actually called my cell phone as we were driving back from the visit, and I gave him the go ahead to continue the placement process.
Crossing our fingers that all goes smoothly...
update: We have a meeting next Monday at the school for Sparkle's change of placement paperwork, and she can start Tuesday if transportation is set up. The room will be ready for her!

And I'm so glad the drugs are helping her as well.
Yeah Sparkle!
