PT, brought to me by WiiFit
I've been going to my physical therapy. Every time I go, I feel as though I am at the absolute edge of what I can do. Then I do more of it in the intervening days at home.
I now can point my toes equally, stand for twenty minutes at a time, walk up stairs alternating legs, actually (with support) stand on my toes, and flex my foot a bit further back. I can, while shod, stand on one foot for one minute, albeit a strongly trembly minute. I can pick up many Legos individually with my toes at a surprising rate.
I can ride an exercise bike, and swim.
My blood sugars, up thirty points, have backed down to being only up about 15 points.
I get stuck if I squat, legs all visibly vibrating. They've put me on a sled with springs for me to work up to enough resistance where I can do it with my own body weight.
They are pleased that I use my WiiFit to log my standing on one leg "tree" exercise, for Yoga. They also think it cute that I do the tree during my one leg standing practice during therapy, and when I am to be on my toes, the Palm Tree. They were surprised at how rock-steady my "warrior" pose was.
Due to those successes, I now have approval to do "ski jump" Wii, which does not actually require jumping, merely squatting and then standing quickly. I'm supposed to march gently, knees high, so I get to "bicycle" on WiiFit, too. They put what I'm doing down in the notes to send to my doctor.
One of the therapists said she's asked a couple other clients if they have WiiFit, for some interactive therapy. This pleases me. And for me, seeing little bars of "yes, you did something for yourself today" on a chart is very helpful in keeping me to do it. Pavlovian little monkey, me.
