ConSonance report 1

I flew in on SkyBus, and hung out at Chris and JohnO's house until a mar-velous sushi supper, at which my sister met me. Had wonderful conversations with Kathy Mar, Eva and Chris from Summer and Fall and Ellen Gould. Stayed over at my sister's house, and saw my nephews and niece. They're growing so much!

Helped my sister with the school play set, and got to see rehearsal for the play. Off to the con in the afternoon, ate dinner with a bunch of the congoers, which meant I didn't get rehearsal time live with Summer and Fall.

Their concert went well (I *had* been practicing to their mp3s,) and followed along on the foreign language songs with the help of a music stand. I was able to fold imaginary paper boats convincingly! A video of the performance was auctioned off to benefit Interfilk. Chris and Eva sing like the Sidhe. Sometimes it's hard to sign to them, because I'm enraptured by how beautiful they sound. My sister got to see the concert, and she thought it was wonderful. When Rafael joined "Stimmen im Wind," it was even more incredible.

In the Friday night filk circle, [livejournal.com profile] trektone played "Bloodchild" at my request, and I'm hoping the video came out well, because that song is soooo creepy/kewl, and I'd like to see it myself! I got to hear, live, so many people I only knew from tapes/cds.

I got to bounce at Leslie Fish. The first filk I ever banged away on upon my guitar was "Banned from Argo," and I loved so many of her songs. To this day (and I told her this, and her eyebrow quirked) I use her adaptation of Kipling's "Pict Song" to teach in my History class as a counterpoint to his "White Man's Burden," regarding Imperialism. I gushed at her, and felt so gauche, and inarticulate and fan-girl crush - can't speak. (And for me to not be able to speak is to be SERIOUSLY overwhelmed!)

I stayed up late, and loved every moment. The folks out there were all so kind to me, and my sister.

Judi, I truly admired how hard you worked at this con! You were on stage for all of the performances I saw (I'm very sorry I missed your concert), and your signing was beautiful, and fun, and you seemed to have infinite stamina. Thank you so much for adding to the wonder and beauty of Consonance 2008. I'm glad you had a good time. Come back and see us again, y'hear? :-)

You and [livejournal.com profile] trektone were so much fun to watch. I love Bloodchild as well. And the two of you performing the ElfQuest songs was wonderful as well.

I met Leslie Fish at a Star Trek convention in Columbus, Ohio, about 30 years ago. She invited me to a room party, and I had a wonderful time. I didn't find out until later that she was a Famous Fan and Filker.

You were fantastic!

Not to mention working harder than anyone else at the con, which is saying a lot. The fan fund really got its money's worth.

...and "Bloodchild" was amazing. Thank you!

I love watching you and working with you, Judi. *Hugs* And I can't wait to do it again!

Beautiful Judi! It is always so wonderful to see you, and a treasure to watch you sign and a treat to hear you sing. As always there wasn't enough time... (is there ever?) I'm so glad you came!

Thank you. D'you know, I'm actually *very* nervous to sing, because I've been told (many times)how awful I am. When I borrowed a guitar at the Dead Dog, and you smiled and said "Oh, everybody! Judi's going to sing! She's got something up," and settled down to listen with a huge smile of expectation, it really made me feel so good and supported! Thank you.

It was great seeing you, and talking to you.

And for my part, I'm still recovering from con sleep issues...
