Hid out in the air conditioning a lot today, as it was beastly hot out. On the way to J's, driving towards Columbus, it was so hot and hazy, you could not see the Columbus skyline through the haze, a distance of less than 14 miles straight.

Swam for nearly two hours with [livejournal.com profile] pondside today.  Pretty sure we duplicated that mile, although we didn't officially count.  Good to see D briefly, too.

While I was away swimming, my darling husband did the bicycle trot along with Sparkle.  She wanted a bath right after, she felt so hot.

After supper, I decided that I needed to get on the bike before the night slipped away from me.  My DH said I should get it in quick, as the weather was deteriorating.  The left side of the sky was a grayish white, the right side of the sky a blueish gray.  Walking to my bike, it felt as though I was breathing through a wet washrag, and I could feel moisture beading on my skin like sweat.

Cicadas chirred loudly the length of the bike trail.  I rode past a couple of ladies a half generation older than me pedaling together, chatting.  I was reminded of my swims with J.  They both beamed at me in my housedress, riding along helmeted.

I had intended to turn at the first road, but I was caught up in my thoughts, and found myself by the bridge before I realized it!  I don't even remember going over the road.  In the open area beyond the bridge, without the trees lining the trail, I could see the right sky darkening, and hear thunder roll.  Oppressive sky is oppressive.

I turned without my usual drink, and rode back home on the highest gear, which my legs felt, but not pushing.  I moved along briskly, but without getting winded.  Ah, stamina, I like building you up!  Along the trail, the cicadas were so loud, that I could not hear the thunder I knew was moving in.  The breeze that picked up made all the vegetation shine silver.

I saw three sets of the indigo buntings, brown mamas and blue papas fluttering together to distract me from their nests.  They made me so pleased to see them on a daily basis.  I also saw a leggy rabbit loppity-lop along the trail, and one hop off into the grass, and nibble unconcernedly as I passed.

My town neighbors were all out, battening down their yards for the oncoming storm.  I chatted with my next-door neighbor before coming in.  I call 40 like it is on the hill, like I'm aging, but I shan't be on the downhill side of this campaign until after 50, the half-way mark.  But even though it was hot and sticky, I was able to ride and return without wiping myself out.
