Hmm. Optimistic (ish) theory #2: All the people in question are coming from a similar sub-social circle, and self-reinforcing the misguided idea that someone who has concerts during the day and then (for some mysterious reason) doesn't go to circle that evening (or even more likely, has concerts the -next- day and doesn't go to circle the previous say) thinks they're "too good for the circle" rather than, you know, the obvious explanation.
