Little Mermaid Crisis
Apr. 16th, 2009 07:53 pm Before swim lessons at the Y tonight, I told my darling husband that at Target, I'd found a cute tank swim suit with a skirt for Sparkle which I wanted to buy in the next size up, so that when she wore out her current model, we'd have one ready. Darling Husband agreed this was reasonable. Sparkle was pleased, and chirped about having a pretty pink suit.
When we changed in the locker room, my little mermaid started agitating for her new swim suit. "But I need my new swim suit! I has to have it now!" she cried, and cried. I looked her over, and her bikini halter was fine, and her little skirt fine, so on to class, with Sparkle protesting and wailing for a new swim suit, and me saying that we'd buy it this weekend, but not right this minute, as class was starting. So the first day of the new session of lessons, where the instructors are trying to decide if Sparkle is up to transitioning from the "special" class to the regular preschool class, she is in meltdown. She wouldn't get in the water until her favorite instructor beguiled her to jump in, and then she was fine. She did go over to the regular class, and did fine.
When we showered, I discovered that Sparkle was wearing her *underwear* bottoms instead of her swim suit bikini bottoms! She'd been upset about not having her swim suit bottoms, and wanted her still new to her suit, not a brand new one from Target. Underwear should not go in swimming pools, right? I felt bad for not having figured out the actual problem. We had another problem when we put on her clothes after the shower and had no dry undies for her. She cried quiet tears all the way home until she could change.
"I'm sad and mad and uncomfie-table," she said, not unreasonably.
But, once she had the proper underthings, life became just fine again, and she is chipper and snuggly and my Sparkle.
