Life in Harmony
Jun. 13th, 2010 10:55 pmWent over to
pondside 's to practice and gear up for Confluence next month. Playing alone at my house, I felt as though I had made no progress in my skills.
Playing with J, I discovered that I was doing far better than I thought. We also logged onto the Internet, and looked up a few alternate fingerings for tenor banjo chords than the mandolin chords I'd been using. The new chords were much, much easier, and I could start playing dynamically on Burton. The Confluence set appears to be more banjo-heavy than the Marcon set was. One "new" song (new to me, old for her) I was very excited to play through well the first time through!
Next up, I need to work out more harmonies. I was doing some for "Oregon Trail," and J said that they were coming along nicely. One comment a musician friend of mine had made at Marcon was that our harmonies sounded very nice when we did them, why did I not sing on more?
Went out to a nice Indian restaurant with
pondside and
rms_butterfly . Oh, my, I ate too much, but it was so, so good! Thank you, J!
At home, Irish wanted a guitar lesson, so we played together. He remembered the names of the strings because he liked the mnemonic: "Every Adult Dragon Grows Big Ears." (Dino prefers "Elvis Ate Drugs: Good-Bye Elvis.")
I ended up practicing Burton some more, too, and now my left fingertips are bright red. (So worth it, though. Playing Burton makes me so happy!)
