Home school journal topic of the day:

"Imagine that it is quite literally hot enough outside to fry an egg on the sidewalk.  How do you plan to keep cool?"

Sleep downstairs, sit in front of running fan, give up and go to my mother's house and jump in her pool and enjoy her AC.

If you get any really good ideas, please post them. I'll pass them along to my (non-LJ) friends who are sweltering in the heat wave.

I favor the idea I got from a mystery novel set in 1920s Melbourne, Australia: if you don't have air conditioning, set a tub of ice in front of a fan so the fan blows cold air around the room.

Yep. A poor man's swamp cooler. Another possible setup is a very damp towel hung in front/behind a box fan. Basically you want to exchange warm air an coolish water for cooler air and evaporated water. Starting with ice instead of liquid water is a bonus

Sell fried eggs. Use proceeds for air conditioner. :)

Why doesn't LJ have "LIKE" feature ala Facebook?

Beat all my suggestions "Wear ice helmet on head to keep brain and face from melting off"; "sleep in shower - cold water only"; "burrow under house"; "remove to the BatCave"; "theatre time!"; "browsing at the MegaMart!"; "hide in fridge"; "steal Apu's squishee machine". -H...

Best one we have is put top sheet in the washing machine and do a rinse cycle. The spining gets the excess water out. Then sleep under the cool, damp sheet at night.

If you have a water bed, turn off the heat and remove the sheets. It becomes a nice thing for stealing heat from the body. Then spend all of your time laying on it.

Fan upstairs to blow hot air out + fan downstairs to suck less hot air in
= chimney effect of air moving through condo.

At least until someone figures out WHY the AC keeps flipping the circuit breaker! ARGHH!!
