My sister and her family, who live out in California, is within only a few miles of the Lockheed fire near Santa Cruz. We haven't been able to get ahold of her, even by cell phone.
My brother lives on Swanton Road, yes, that Swanton Road. His cell phone coverage has been a bit shaky. And if she accidentally left the chargers at home, she may be out of power. But I live in San Jose, and I am watching the news. Only two out buildings damaged, and CalFire doesn't think they are going to lose any homes. 65 percent containment, probably full containment by Wednesday. Everyone in Bonny Doon is allowed to visit home, with the understanding that there is still lots of fire equipment around and the winds could change things again. Swanton Road is still closed but mostly because it is narrow and there is all those fire trucks clogging things up. Fire Maps show that basically only wild forest is in the fire zone right now. So Breathe, and know that they should be ok. *hugs*
Thank you so much for your quick, local report. I read it moments after you posted, and it provided me with a great deal of comfort and relief until we actually heard from my sister.
Evacuated lots of folks, but no homes burned. No deaths reported.
I've been keeping up with friend who's a smoke eater working at the Command Center or aircraft refuel/rewater sit. As wild fires go, this one going fine and they are able to keep it from folk's homes.
