I can not play the banjo when my DH is sleeping before he goes to work. I only get very small snippets of time to practice. (Well, Flylady says that 15 minutes of something is better than nothing, anyway. She calls it a "lick at a snake," and I guess I'm practicing musical licks.)

My fingers are having a hard time pressing down on the strings in the new (for me) chord positions hard enough for chords to sound bright on all the strings.

So when I was gnashing my teeth at how the sounds coming from my banjo were not as - musical - as I would like, my DH had to remind me that I've only had it for a week and a half.

But like the guitar, I can actually play melody lines fairly easily on the banjo. I want to play now, but the kids are in bed. *sigh*

Ha! For your pains of actually encouraging me to *play* and *sing* with you, you have "earned" the dubious award of me actually hauling it out in inflicting it's tones upon you!

(Hey - did you not say you wanted music with a "horror" theme for Marcon? Does banjo music not count towards such? Tee Hee!)

I used to own a banjo and play joyfully but.... the resonance behind the banjo gave me a headache every time I practiced so I eventually traded it for D's bowed psaltry. It was likely just "my" banjo but.. I didn't test the theory.

I love banjo, I love listening to banjo, I even love banjo players -- so lay it on my dear -- I welcome the horror...

When life is a little less insane and I am more full of cope, I'd love to play with you/give you some pointers.

I'd absolutely LOVE that! Thank you! (Happy skippy Snoopy dance of joy!)

And I think you are one of the few friends I have locally who will really appreciate my grandfather's banjo, and why it's so precious to me, because of your love of the music.

Hee! I am loving hearing about your banjo love. It sounds like the way it was for me - I struggled with guitar for years, but the banjo set me on fire with the desire to play it.
