Went to the Ohio State University Geological Museum today, with the boys, since it was President's Day, and we had no school today.  The gentleman who runs the museum and gift shop had a lecture in the classroom by the museum, and Dino yearned by the open door, listening to the college class and watching the slides through the doorway.

At a bathroom break, I asked the teacher if he would mind if we sat quietly in the back, because my son wanted to hear more.  The teacher was delighted, and we settled in the back row.  I told a somewhat bored Irish that he was a sweet good brother for sitting quietly so that his brother could enjoy something he really loved.  They both paid close attention.  It was an interesting lecture, and I learned a few things I hadn't known before.

Afterwards, Dino and Irish chatted with him, and he was sweet and patient with them.  A couple of students smiled and encouraged them, too, and said to me that they were reminded of themselves when they were small.  Dino had fun identifying the fossils the teacher had brought into the classroom, and guessing the geologic era - with great success.

The teacher told me that I had a couple of bright boys.  What could I do but thank him?  I also thanked him for letting us sit in.  I told him that Dino had plans on becoming a paleontologist, and had been fascinated with dinosaurs and evolution since he was able to talk.  He just smiled indulgently and knowingly.  I'm sure he'd already identified a fellow long-term fanatic.  The boys bought science toys at the gift shop, and I bought a stuffed sabertooth for Sparkle.

Outside, we got more inches of slick, slippery snow, which made the drive home frightening, especially when the wind picked up.  Without sunglasses, the world was white.  With, I could *just* see where the road was.  No school tomorrow.  Deer in our yard tonight, eating underneath the pine tree branches where there was still grass.

It's a wonderfulness that you were able to sit in on the lecture. I'm sure Dino will remember that forever.

Last summer the Detroit Zoo had an exhibit of animatronic dinosaurs, and I finally uploaded my photos of it to Flickr, here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/maiac/sets/72157623236670219/detail/). The set includes a couple of short videos. Dino may enjoy them. The exhibit included dinosaurs I'd never seen before.
